Secure Digital Cards

Secure Digital Cards.

Secure Digital cards are solid-state devices designed with flash technology, a non-volatile storage solution that does not lose its information when power is removed from the card. The cards contain no moving parts and are extremely rugged, providing much greater data protection than conventional magnetic disk drives.

The SD card's nimble, portable data transfer and low battery consumption makes it ideal for high-speed digital cameras, camcorders, MP3s, cell phones, PDAs, and global positioning systems. Interface options include an SD interface or a serial peripheral interface.

Crucial SD cards measure 0.95 inches wide, 1.26 inches high, and 0.08 inches thick (24 mm by 32 mm by 2.1 mm).

miniSD Cards

miniSD Cards.

Crucial's miniSD cards are solid-state devices designed with flash technology, a non-volatile storage solution that does not lose its information when power is removed from the card. The cards contain no moving parts and are extremely rugged, providing much greater data protection than conventional magnetic disk drives.

Like regular SD cards, the miniSD card's nimble, portable data transfer makes it ideal for portable electronic devices. The miniSD's smaller size (it is about 56 percent of the size [surface area] of a regular SD card) is designed for use in newer mobile phones, which have memory-hungry features such as built-in digital cameras, music download capability, and games.

However, the card uses an adapter that converts the miniSD card into a regular-sized SD card so that the card can be used with other SD-compatible devices, such as digital cameras, MP3 players, and handheld computers. The adapter is also great for using your miniSD card in card readers that accept SD cards but not miniSD cards.

Crucial miniSD cards measure 0.8465 inches wide, 0.7874 inches high, and 0.05512 inches thick (21.5 mm by 20 mm by 1.4 mm).

microSD Cards

microSD Cards.

The microSD card's tiny size, about 38 percent of the (surface area) size of a miniSD card and a mere 21 percent of the (surface area) size of a regular SD card, is designed for use in cellular phones with memory-hungry multimedia features such as music players and built-in digital cameras.

The microSD card is for use in devices equipped with microSD slots. The card can utilize the provided adapter that converts the microSD card into a regular-sized SD card, allowing the microSD to be used with other regular SD-compatible devices, such as digital cameras, MP3 players, and handheld computers. The adapter is also convenient for using a microSD card in card readers that accept SD cards but not microSD cards.

At its release, the microSD card is the smallest memory card with worldwide availability, measuring 0.4331 inches wide, 0.5906 inches high, and 0.03937 inches thick (11 mm by 15 mm by 1 mm) and weighing 0.4 grams.

What is flash technology?
Flash cards are solid-state devices designed with NAND flash technology, a non-volatile storage solution that does not lose its information when power is removed from the card. The cards contain no moving parts and are extremely rugged, providing much greater data protection than conventional magnetic disk drives.

CompactFlash Cards

CompactFlash Cards.

A Crucial CompactFlash Type I memory card is a solid-state disk card with a 50-pin connector. The pins provide a connection between the memory and the CompactFlash drive in your electronic device. CompactFlash cards are used more like a hard drive than RAM. They are designed with flash technology, a non-volatile storage solution that does not lose its information when power is removed from the card. The cards contain no moving parts and are extremely rugged, providing much greater data protection than conventional magnetic disk drives.

CompactFlash cards are commonly used in portable applications such as digital cameras, digital music players, and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

When buying CompactFlash, be sure it is the type of memory card your device takes, most cameras and other devices can accept only one type of card (MultiMediaCard, CompactFlash card, or Secure Digital card). Crucial CompactFlash Type I cards can be used in a CompactFlash Type II slot. CompactFlash Type II cards cannot be used in Type I slots. Crucial CompactFlash Type I cards can also be used in Type III PCMCIA slots with an optional adapter or with card readers that connect to USB ports and serial ports.

CompactFlash Type I cards weigh just a half-ounce and are about the size of a matchbook: 1.6 inches long, 1.4 inches high, and 0.13 inches thick (40.6 mm by 35.6 mm by 3.3 mm).

xD-Picture Card

xD-Picture Card.

Expand the storage capacity of your xD-compatible electronics with a High-Speed Olympus xD-Picture Card™ (Type H). Compact, reliable, and durable, the xD-Picture Card is a rewritable digital media that works with most manufacturers' xD-compatible devices. The Olympus xD-Picture Card is the only xD card that supports the panorama function found on most Olympus digital cameras.

With faster write speeds (up to 2 to 3 times faster) than previous standard xD cards (Type M), the Type H xD card saves and formats QuickTime movies more quickly, reducing your wait time between shots.

And with increased storage capacities (256MB, 512MB, and 1GB), you can capture more images and movies on each Type H card.

When used in conjunction with Olympus digital cameras running OLYMPUS Master 1.4 software, Type H cards offer the ability to use special "picture effects" that turn your digital photos into watercolor, oil paintings, cartoon art, or 3-D photos. (Each Type H card comes with a unique authorization code for the software.)
